Solar Eclipse
Early in the morning on May 31st 2003 there was a partial solar eclipse, where 91% of the suns diameter was covered by the moon. I got up at 5.00 am and stayed up for about an hour, when I went back to bed. My family joined me for about 30 minutes. It only got a little bit darker, as the light went a bit more orange than usual, but it was still suprisingly bright considering we only got a lot less of the light we normally get. The photos of the sun were taken through welding glasses, and the big shot is taken through a pair of regular handheld binoculars. On the second picture, the sun is bright in the shot, but a lens flare of the eclipsed sun is captured down and to the left of the sun. When the sun shone through all the little holes between the blades in our hedge, the suns image was projected onto the wall of our neighbours house. If you look closely at the closeup of the sun, you can even see a sunspot in the middle-right part of the sun.
